Here is the official description of Descartes CONNECT Edition: Bentley© Descartes™ CONNECT Edition Advancing Information Modeling for Intelligent Infrastructure Bentley Descartes is the one-stop solution for editing and visualizing the kinds of huge data sets common in engineering and mapping projects today. These include imagery, point clouds, reality meshes and digital terrain models. Bentley© Descartes™ V8i is still the preferred solution for processing aerial imagery, binary imagery and raster digital elevation modeling (DEM). Bentley© Descartes™ CONNECT Edition is the first version of Bentley Descartes based on MicroStation CONNECT Edition and fully 64 bit. It does not yet include the image processing capabilities but fully supports point clouds, scalable terrain models and reality meshes (ContextCapture 3MX files). It is ONLY currently available as a standalone product. Bentley Descartes for MicroStation (the layered application that can be installed on top of MicroStation, OpenRoads, OpenPLant) is not available as a CONNECT Edition product yet. Bentley© Descartes™ CONNECT Edition introduces unique capabilities to process reality meshes created by Bentley ContextCapture and increases the reach of point cloud processing with better scalability and a more effective user interface. The main key new features include: ◾Support for CONNECTED Users and CONNECTED Projects ◾New Ribbon User Interface for greater productivity ◾Integration of Bentley ContextCapture reality meshes (*.3mx) ◾Ground extraction from reality meshes and point clouds ◾Drape element and snap element tools with enhanced support for reality meshes ◾Section and model by section tools no longer limited to point clouds ◾Point cloud colorization from orthophotos
