I never used subblocks. I only use multi CPU system for tie in points which helps a lot. Try another approach. Divide your aerials to folders with smaller amount of images and do the AT with sets of image in first folder, then add images from another folder and do the AT again and so on. Previously calculated tie in points are stored on HDD so when doing another AT with added new set of data they will not have to be processed again. It will also allow you for more control of the At process. It is also important to divide your images into sets which overlap each other rather than having two sets in a separate locations of the city. On the other hand merging blocks can also work but I can offer no help with this workflow as I haven't tried it yet.
