Hi. Been testing pointools. Pros--> Can handle really big datasets, uploaded a 780M point cloud and handles it really well, but. you cant do much with it aside from doing a video. I find overall pointools feels like half baked biscuit. Stuff: SELECTION Selection is probably one of the most important aspects when dealing with clouds, PT has some weird behaviours in there. If you select Ball brush mode, you may whant to have some Constraints so you go to Constraints tab and you setup a color match contrain using the color picker. WHen you use the color picker if the brush size gizmo is not minimal size it will pick up the cyan color of the gyzmo. Really annoying. Yo'll need to reduce the size of the ballbrush gizmo and do the pick up operation. Obviously the gizmo should be non existing to this tool but it probably performs a color pick on the final rendered image. Thisis IMO a MUST be fixed. Similar annoying bug is that when trying to Contraint using intensity match, when you click the Pick button you would spect that after clicking a point you would get the points intensity value set into teh stiler and you dont, you've to after clikcing the point bo tack to Pick button and click and at that point is where the value is set on slider. On the select points tab, retangle polygon.... when you choose Cloud. All points are selected even if Deselect is sselected in Select Mode tab. Really annoying. There should be a cloud alike SelectPoints tool where you perform a selection using the active constraints because as it is now the constraints are only applyed on small regions or you've to set a massive brush but if you set a massive brush when using the picker you pick the brush gizmo values. So, basically it feels broken. Selection and segmentation into layers is something Pointools should be doing like a pro and its failing, I'm not asking more to the software, if you whant to further process the cloud CC would do a nice job but you may whant to segment the data into multiple sub clouds prior to going to MS of CC to work on a cleaner data than the whole scan. Some feature I miss on the selection side. Time is not a value that is visible available when performing selections, sadly, having it would help cleaning up mobile mapping scans as sometimes dual lane roads get scanned twice and side points of the scann fall into the oposite lane creating some noisy waves that would be very easy to clean if constrainign teh view to an specifc time as CC allow to do. Something I love from CC is that allows to visualize an specific scalar field (so far PT is RGB or Intensity and thats it), and from that SF you can constrain values using a scale bar. In CC it will force you to segment the cloud using that constrained values if you whant to edit further, if PT was able to constrain the rendered points temporally using a similar scale bar and allow selection/cleanup operations on that rendered set of points would be very handly for cleanups. Also CC performs the constraint in real time something I miss in PT. COLORING : In regards to coloring, PT has some cool tools but I miss a Clone Stamp tool as picking and using the brush usually feels like a cheap cleanup. The very perfect solution would be something like in photoshop that allows you to select a region and you fill it using "context aware" option and seamlessly. Thats it, some basic stuff where PT should excell in order to be able to export clean, segmented clouds into MS or other soft as CC if ruther editing is needed. Hope they manage to add into MS the capability of rendering points so smoothly as at this point Connect does not perform nowhere as goot as PT into cloud rendering. Navigation in PT is not fantastic either a WASD + mouse orbit could be helpfull.
